Biography

Andrew Markham is an Associate Professor at the University of Oxford, working in the area of embedded sensors and systems. He received his BSc and PhD degrees from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, before joining the Sensor Networks Group in Oxford as a postdoctoral researcher. He works in a number of different areas including sensor networks and RFID for wildlife tracking, indoor positioning and structural health monitoring. Previously,  Dr. Markham worked as a postdoc on the WildSensing project, which monitored 70 badgers and their environment over the period of a year using a hybrid RFID/Sensor Network approach. During this time, Andrew also developed a technique for automatically evolving sensor network control systems to achieve a particular task (such as target tracking).
