Biography

Benny Mandler received his B.Sc. with honours from the Vesalius College in Brussels (VUB), majoring in computer science with a minor in social sciences. He received his M.Sc from Boston University. Mr. Mandler has been working as a research staff member in IBM Research – Haifa since 1994 and has over 20 years of professional experience in distributed software systems research. His main areas of expertise include Internet of Things platforms; high availability and group communication systems; and storage (focus on advanced file systems). Mr. Mandler has published several papers, has issued numerous patents, and has represented IBM in several standard bodies. In his current position Benny is the coordinator of the FP7 project COMPOSE (https://www.compose-project.eu/), which is creating a full-fledged IoT platform geared towards IoT application developers. In addition Benny is the general chair of the IoTaaS conference for the second year.

Title: IoT platforms: the device, edge, cloud trio

Scope: The IoT raises numerous challenges due to its unique characteristics such as scale, and multidimensional heterogeneity, IoT Platform providers should take that into consideration with an adaptive hybrid deployment model; which is not easy to realize.
