Thomas Magedanz
Thomas Magedanz is full professor in the electrical engineering and computer sciences faculty at the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. There he is leading the chair for Next Generation Networks and educating masters and PhD students in the fields of multimedia Service Delivery Platform technologies on top of converging fixed and mobile networks, Next Generation Networks, and the Future Internet.
In addition, he is director of the “Next Generation Network Infrastructures” division of the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, where he is responsible for the performance of major international R&D co-operations and related projects in the context of next generation telecommunications infrastructures. In this context he is a globally recognized pioneer of the development and delivery of advanced network and service technology testbeds and related software tools in the fields of Next Generation Networks and the emerging Future Internet for both academia and industry.
In 2006, Prof. Magedanz has been assigned as Extraordinary Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Since 2007, he is also Visiting Professor to the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computing at the Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland.
In 2007 Prof. Magedanz joined the European FIRE (Future Internet Research and Experimentation) Expert Group.
In the course of his research activities he published more than 250 technical papers/articles. In addition, Prof. Magedanz is senior member of the IEEE, and editorial board member of several journals.
He received his diploma and his Ph.D. in computer sciences from the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, in 1988 and 1993, respectively. In 2000 he finished his postdoctoral lecture qualification in Applied Computer Sciences at the Technische Universität Berlin.
